About us – Instinct Fabrication

Our Philosophy

Instinct Fabrication (IF) is an innovative and experimental design studio focusing on landscape architecture, urban design and environmental strategies. With offices in Beijing, Shenzhen and San Francisco, the studio was founded in 2015 by Ying Lou , the founder and design lead.

Instinct Fabrication is named as a synthesis within design process and a hybrid between two distinct layers: 1.We believe there's certain nature or logic within every project/design experiment, something wouldn't be subjective, alike 'instinct', requiring comprehensive exploration by designers. That is a fundamental key to understand a project correctly and appropriately; 2. Once we found that nature, there's a process adding designer's craftsmanship and customization to represent that nature/instinct in a sleek and feasible fashion, which, we call it as ' Fabrication' .

The portfolio of IF spans from public urban spaces to residential landscapes and campus design. User experience and the application of new technologies are the trademark of IF's design across all landscape typologies. IF’s projects strive for placemaking that activates the urban realm and encourages users to actively engage with their environment.

With a proactive attitude towards design, IF receives numbers of awards internationally and domestically, including Merit Awards from American Society of Landscape Architects - Northern California Chapter , and Golden, Sliver Design Award from IDA(International Design Awards) ,etc.

Guojing Shao graduated from Qingdao agricultural university, garden professional, have strong communication and project management ability, good ability to find and solve problems in design, the project of landscape and the professional processing experience and attentive problems are responsible for, in the field of landscape design work for many years, mainly involved in a lot of public open space projects.

Ms. Sun has been engaged in landscape planning and design for more than 15 years, with experience in office and commercial space, residential area, ecological landscape and cultural and tourism projects. I once worked as the Deputy Director of DDON Beijing Headquarters, and my experience covers the design and management of the whole process from the early concept to the late construction.

After obtaining a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Melbourne in Australia, Ms. Guo Wei worked at HASSELL, an internationally renowned firm. Strong communication and project management skills, good at finding and solving problems in design. He has worked in the field of landscape design for many years. Mainly participated in a large number of public open space projects, including urban core riverside park, large waterfront open space planning, CBD central park, heritage park, business district landscape, residential landscape, villa landscape and golf resort landscape, with certain experience and accumulation in landscape planning and design.

Mr. Lou focuses his practice in area of landscape architectural planning and design for years after he received Master degrees of landscape architecture and urban design from Louisiana State University, whose landscape program ranks among top3 all the time in United States. He has been involved in a number of public space and open space landscape projects in his career and he particularly like addressing the human and culture involvement throughout design process. Prior to founding ‘INSTINCT FABRICATION’ , he had various practical experiences in several world-leading design firms such as EDAW/AECOM San Francisco and Beijing offices, Sasaki Associates, and EDSA.

Ms .Song graduated from Beijing Forestry University with a degree in urban planning and is currently the chief executive of Instinct Fabriaction

Yu Qiu has been engaged in landscape planning and design for more than 10 years. He has presided over and participated in the design of different types of projects, including office and commercial space, residential space, urban open space, campus landscape, etc. I worked as the chief designer in Shenzhen office of AECOM respectively. My experience covers the design and management of the whole process from the early concept to the late construction.

Zheng Mao graduated from a professional art school with independent education. He has solid artistic foundation and rich experience in landscape design. He has worked in the Shenzhen office of Arya for many years. Mainly participated in and designed a large number of urban public projects, such as commercial office complex, cultural and entertainment complex, industrial park, waterfront landscape space, urban open park, high-end hotel, residential park, etc.

Mr. Wang ceceived a Bachelor in Environmental Science from Chongqing University and a Master in Landscape Architecture from LSU. Before joining INSTINCT FABRICATION, he worked at Ecoland studio, where he was involved in numerous different scale projects from site design to peri-urban planning. With over sixteen years of experience, he directed the development of designs for many residential and resort projects from concept to construction documents. His design work explore issues of ecology and sustainable design in cities, as well as landscape planning practices in country area.
